Whirlwind madness in preparation for my new home for the next three months, Seoul, Korea. It didn't really sink in that I was actually leaving my current reality for another unknown one. That is, until I got to LAX, checked in, my English slowly giving way to broken Korean. Sitting there, making farewell calls, I paused and said, "what the hell is going on right now?" Even on the plane, after a hearty meal of bi-bim-bap and cute, thin stewardesses in pencil skirts, lights out, I didn't quite know what was going on. Probably the extreme lack of sleep over the last couple days...
Woke up, (solid interface design on the entertainment displays-touch screen, tons of contemporary movies for free), was handed a customs form in Korean, and the panic set in. Had I brought in any firearms? Any MDMA, marijuana, or psilyocibin? Any pronographic materials? "This is it", I said to myself, "They're going to deport my Korean-American ass".
The fastest egress of any flight ever took place. Beautiful Incheon Airport, man. Modern, sleek, quiet, contemporary, understated warm wooden panels on the walls, water sculptures. Passport control and customs was literally a 5-10 minute wait. Bags were already spinning by the time I got there, and found them in less than ten. Rented a phone, took a bus- damn friendly people, especially for 6 am. Napped into Seoul and hooked up with Paul, my cuz. The shit is on baby. Seoul is straight Chicago or New York styley. I'm out.
